Photography
Contests Member IMPORTANT: The following statements apply to all Member photography contests: By submitting your photo to GFWC, you are providing GFWC with a royalty-free perpetual license to use, reproduce, post, display, create deriviative works, sell, license, or sub-license the work in any media now known or later invented without limitation, for commercial or non-commercial purposes. The World in Pictures, GFWC Volunteers in Action, and Great States Updates and Student Photography will all be judged on the Club, District, and State Levels. A Year in Pictures will be judged separately, according to the stated rules. The World in Pictures Categories ·
Natural
History: flowers, animals, insects,
birds, trees, etc. ·
Scenic:
vistas, landscapes, seascapes, snow scenes, bridges, parks, mountains,
farmland, etc. (A person or animal
is allowed in the picture as long as it is not the focal point) ·
Feature:
human interest picture including people, patriotic photos, events, etc. Rules ·
Photographers
must be dues paying members of active GFWC clubs. ·
Entries
can be black and white or color photos. ·
Size of
entry (including mat) must be at least 10" x 12" and no larger than
14" x 16". All others
will be disqualified. No frames or
glass. Entries must be matted. ·
Back of
each photo must have an arrow drawn indicating the top.

Each
photo must have the following information on the back:
GFWC category name, photographer's name, address, phone number, e-mail, name and
state of sponsoring club, brief caption giving location and situation of the
photo, photo title. ·
Photos
must be taken during the contest year (Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 2008). ·
States
are entitled to one entry in each of the three categories. ·
Contestants
must be amateur photographers; earnings from photography must not exceed $500
annually. ·
Photos
will not be returned.

Photos
may be taken using film or digital cameras. ·
The same
image may be submitted to "The World in Pictures", "GFWC
Volunteers in Action" and A Year in Pictures" photo contests, but separate
photos must be entered in each contest. GFWC VOLUNTEERS IN ACTION Photos should "describe" a club project;
e.g., club members reading to children for a Read across America project, digging and
planting a garden for a beautification project, selling cookies at a bake sale
for a fundraising project, etc. Judges
will look for "action" shots rather than a posed group of GFWC
members. RULES
Awards The World in Pictures and GFWC Volunteers in Action State Level: A GFWC certificate will be presented to the first place winners (both contests) in each state. National Level: Cash awards and GFWC certificates will be presented to the top three national entries in each category of "The World In Pictures" and to the top three winners in the "GFWC Volunteers in Action" contest: 1st - $100, 2nd - $75, 3rd - $50. The top entries will be featured in the GFWC Clubwoman magazine. Awards are made possible by Joel Karesh, International Convention Photography, Inc. Great States Update 2009 ONLY GFWC Headquarters would like to update photos representing each state. Winners' photos will hang proudly in you GFWC Headquarters home, Washington, D. C. Each state is responsible for judging. Guidelines include:
Judging Each state is responsible for judging. Pennsylvania judging will be held at the Club, District, and state levels. Winning photo entry should be ready to hang - horizontal photo framed with mat and glass not to exceed 20 x 18 inches. No GFWC awards will be given and photos will not be returned. National Level: Winning states' photos will be exhibited at the GFWC Annual International Convention in 2010. Winning photo will represent the state and be on display at GFWC Headquarters, Washington, D.C. A Year in Pictures (Calendar Contest) ·
Photographers

Judges will look for photos particularly suitable for calendars, such as
photos relevant to particular months of seasons. · Photos must be horizontal. ·

must be color prints. ·

than 14" x 16" with no frame or glass.

should send one photo to GFWC Headquarters by May 1, 2009 AWARDS National Level: The

brief caption about the location and situation of a 3" x 5" card and
affix to back of photo. ·

must be taken during the contest year (Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 2008). ·
Entry
Forms: A fully completed entry form
must be affixed to the back of each entry with information neatly printed or
typed. ·
Entries
will be prejudged at the District and State Levels. It is the responsibility of the arts chairman to make
arrangements for the photography to be forwarded to the next level of
competition. ·
Student
